The IFVs will replace obsolescent M113AS4 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) that were upgraded in recent years but date from the mid-1960s. The Australian Government released on 24 August 2018 the LAND 400 Phase 3 Request for Tender for the supply of a family of tracked combat vehicles. The advised closing date is 1 March 2019. An indusrty briefing was held at Land Forces 2018 on 5 September 2018 - a copy of the public presentation is available here . The RfI under Land 400 Phase 3 for 450 tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) closed on 22 February. The IFVs will replace 431 upgraded but elderly M113AS4 armoured personal carriers (APCs) – 140 of which are in storage – in the mounted close combat role.
